The Clerk at the Table informed the Senate that the Honourable the Speaker and the Honourable the Speaker pro tempore were unavoidably absent.
The Honourable Senator Carstairs moved, seconded by the Honourable Senator Kinsella:
That during the absence of the Honourable the Speaker and the Honourable the Speaker pro tempore, the Honourable Senator Corbin do preside as Speaker.
Whereupon the Honourable Senator Corbin took the Chair.
PRAYERS
The Senate observed a minute of silence to the memory of the Honourable Senator Twinn, whose death occurred October 30, 1997.
With leave of the Senate,
The Honourable Senator Carstairs moved, seconded by the Honourable Senator Kinsella:That, out of respect for the memory of the Honourable Senator Twinn, the Senate do now adjourn until tomorrow, Wednesday, November 5, 1997, at 1:30 p.m.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
